About backplates and parts

In this online shop you will not receive the usual photos that you can buy from "normal" photo agencies. All backplates in this shop are NOT designed as end products of the design work. They are only building blocks into which the essential motif must still be inserted by means of image montage. They are produced according to the usual parameters in their respective intended area of application and must be supplemented by photos of people and/or objects photographed to match the respective background in order to obtain a visual end result. The Spare Parts gallery also offers motifs that contain elements to cut out and paste into your photos.

The backplates and spare parts are only offered as JPEGs for downloading for a fee. The image sizes are specified in the metadata. All JPEGs are offered in quality level 12 (maximum), unsharpened; the color space is Adobe RGB. The focus is usually in the foreground of the image.

Most backplates have file names from which you can deduce the focus and/or the technique used and the degree of blurring that has occurred. The meanings:

_Full  The background motif offers a focused base in the lower part of the image on which the mounted model or object is positioned. This base is of course already specified when the photo is taken and cannot be changed.

_blurred  The entire backplate motif was subtly digitally blurred using a blur filter, usually by 2 - 3 pixels. These backplates are made for image montages with photos of people cropped from below.

_Bokeh The background photo was optically blurred when the photo was taken by using longer focal length with an open aperture. The focus was in the foreground in front of the background shown and was set in most cases so that the focus was on an imaginary person of average size cropped from below. A person photographed in the corresponding image section can be harmoniously inserted into the backplate. An optically created blur looks different than a digital blur that is subsequently applied.

_soft  The background image was digitally resolved much more strongly than the _blurred versions using a digital blur filter (e.g. field blur).

Of course all backplates may be used for the GreenScreen method, too.

Scales

Proportiones, perspectives, image sections, depth of field, focusing and lighting are adapted to the photographic mainstream. The "art" is to fit the main motif into these backplates in such a way that a realistic-looking image result is created. For some motifs, however, the proportions are difficult to estimate and adjust. Some of these backplates are therefore provided with additional optical information: on the left or the right edge of the image, a thin red line can be seen in these backplates, which begins at the bottom of the focus line and shows the height of an average person (approx. 1,75m) in the background motif. Backplates with this additional information (which you can simply cut off) are marked with the extension _Scale. The red arrows in the example image below are only used to mark the red line and are of course not included in the backplates.
